Game Day - Field Status

Field Status for May 8, 2021:

This is one of those mornings where it's a very difficult call.  All 9:00 AM games are cancelled.  The fields need time to dry out.

The 11:00 AM games and later will be determine by the home team!!  Please inspect the field at least 2 hours before game time and decide if you can play.  If you can't play, please contact the opposing team immediately and follow the "Weekday" Rainout Protocol (located below) if you have umpires.

Below is what I saw during this morning's inspection:

Lunken Fields:

- Lunken 1 has a lot of standing water.  It could dry quick.  Could be playable at 11:00 AM.

- Lunken 2 didn't have as much standing water as Lunken 1.  Could be playable at 11:00 AM.

Oakley Field

- All Oakley Fileds have standing water and the surfaces are rough due to lack of dragging.  11:00 AM could be a stretch but 1:00 PM could be playable.  Home teams needs to make the call for 11:00 AM and later.  Please notify opposing teams.

Schmidt:

- All Schmidt Fields have standing water.  11:00 AM could be playable.  Home teams needs to make the call for 11:00 AM and later.  Please notify opposing teams and follow "weekday" rainout protocol.

** The storage box at your field should have supplies (rake, shovel...).  The combination to the lockbox is a 4 digit number.  It's the number on the box, twice.  Example:  If a box is number 4 then the combination is 0404.  If it's 16 then the combination is 1616.  Please put the key back and any supllies you used!!

***Reminder, as of 7:30 AM today all 9:00 AM games are cancelled.  The home teams needs to make the call on rather a field is playable or not for 11:00 AM games and later.  Please follow the "weekday" rainout protocol.

Safety First!!

Good luck today!!!

Knothole Baseball-District 5: Rainout Policy

Weekend and Weekday Rainout Policy:

Weekend Rainout Policy:

On the weekend, the majority of the games are played at 3 locations.  District representatives (some of them are four legged) will check the fields to see if they are playable.  The Knothole Baseball District 5 website will be updated by 8:00 AM, every Saturday morning.  We will also update the website and close any fields that aren't playable.  The website will then notify the teams that are affected by the fields being closed.

  1. Check the Knothole Baseball District 5 website at http://knotholebaseballD5.com.  The website will be updated no later than 8:00 AM.
  2. If fields are closed, contact the opposing team’s coach of the cancelation.
  3. Try to reschedule the make-up game with the other coach immediately.
  4. Once a make-up date has been agreed upon please email me at   and I will update the website.

Important Note!  Once the website has been updated (by 8:00 AM Saturday morning), if inclement weather rolls into the area after 8:00 AM and causes unsafe playing conditions, the "Weekday Rainout Policy" goes into effect.  It becomes the Home team's call on whether a game needs to be postponed due to unsafe playing conditions.  Please follow the "Weekday Rainout Policy".

Weekday Rainout Policy:

During the week it is the "Home" team coach's responsibility to determine if a field is playable or not.

  1. If you decide to cancel, please text our Director of Umpires at (513) 266-0182 immediately.  This will allow us to contact the umpire assigned to your game.  Please  do not call, only text!
  2. When texting; text your field location, start time and team name.
  3. Contact me via email at or text at 513-259-8020, so I can update the website.
  4. Try to reschedule the make-up game with the other coach immediately.
  5. Once a make-up date has been agreed upon please email me and I will update the website.

Please consider the following when making the decision to play:

  1. The safety of the players.  Wet conditions can cause injuries.
  2. Please do not damage the field by playing when the field is to wet.
  3. Absolutely, no digging trenches on any fields!  This causes long term damage.
  4. Please use only a quality mixture if you are going to use a field drying agent (no “Kitty Litter”!).  There’s a product called “Pro’s Choice - Rapid Dry”.  You can pick it up at “Teams All Sports” in West Chester, Ohio.
  5. If you cancel; please try to notify the opposing team's coach no later than 3:00 PM so they can get a message out to their parents (if possible, even earlier for teams traveling more than 30 minutes).
  6. Please notify me so I can update the website.
